Newbattle Medical Group operates across two sites located in Mayfield and Danderhall. Our main building in Mayfield was purpose built in 2004 and continues to serve us well. In 2023 we were delighted to add Danderhall Medical practice to the group.
We have a large population of over 18,000 patients. This is matched by our large number of GPs, offering one of the highest doctor to patient ratios in Lothian. All our doctors and nursing staff undergo annual appraisal. We are proud to be a training practice for medical students, junior doctors and future GPs.
The local area was historically a mining community and is now home to the National Mining Museum of Scotland. The main source of local employment is now light industry and many of the working population commuting to Edinburgh. The development of the Borders railway has improved the local transportation links to Edinburgh and the area continues to benefit from regeneration

The Practices & On-Site Facilities
Newbattle Medical Group recently became a three practice surgery. Our main Newbattle site has been running since 2004 and was joined by the opening of the brand new Newtongrange site. In August of 2023 we were delighted to have added the Danderhall Medical Practice to our group.

Our Practice
Appointment System
Offering convenient, fast, quality access
We offer an eConsult service to allow patients to contact us 24/7, rather than waiting on the end of a phone. This frees up phone lines considerably for those that do not have internet access. You can also submit an eConsult on behalf of a friend or loved one with their consent. We deal with on average over 1500 eConsults per week, the vast majority (over 95%) getting a same day response.
