The Implant

The only contraceptive implant currently available in the UK is Nexplanon©. It is a small plastic rod which is inserted under the skin of your upper arm. It lasts for 3 years but you can have it removed sooner.

The implant slowly releases a low dose of a hormone called progestogen. It is one of the most effective methods of contraception currently available, and you are very unlikely to get pregnant when using the implant.

Irregular bleeding is common when using the implant. Some people might bleed frequently and other people might not bleed at all. The bleeding pattern can change at any time.

Arranging to get an implant fitted

Drs Ansell, Gaskell, R Morrison & Read are the doctors who can fit these devices.

If you wish to have an implant inserted / changed / removed, this can be arranged easily in one of our GP clinics.  Please follow the link below to complete an e consult.  Once received and reviewed by a GP, our reception team will contact you to arrange an appointment.

Before attending the appointment, please ensure that you have collected your prescription for the new implant from the chemist. You need to bring this with you to the appointment.
